DECT vs Bluetooth for desk phones and PCs

DECT is the wireless standard built for office floors: a base at the desk talks to the headset over a dedicated radio, often with long range and a jack for the desk phone. Bluetooth is what hybrid laptops already speak — usually via a USB dongle — and suits hot-desks and home offices without a desk phone. Pick DECT when the phone on the desk still matters; pick Bluetooth when the softphone on the PC is the main line.

When DECT fits

Choose DECT if agents walk the floor, share a desk phone, or need range beyond a typical Bluetooth office setup.

  • Jabra Engage 75 SE — stereo DECT; base connects to desk phone, PC (USB) and mobile (Bluetooth 5.0); range up to 150 m; 90 g. Box: headset with base, phone adapter cable, headband cushion, power supply, USB-C to USB-A cable.
  • Poly Savi 8220 Teams — stereo DECT for PC; up to 13 h talk; USB-A DECT adapter + USB-A to USB-C adapter + charging stand. Teams-certified per listing.
  • Poly Savi 8245 Office — convertible mono (ear-hook, headband or neckband); office base for desk phone + PC; range up to 180 m; up to 13 h talk. Check the product page for the platform version (Teams or UC) before ordering.
  • Poly CS540A — convertible mono for desk phone; range up to 120 m; up to 7 h talk. This listing is the desk-phone model.

When Bluetooth fits

Choose Bluetooth (with the manufacturer dongle where supplied) for laptop-first hybrid work:

  • Evolve2 75 / 85 / Evolve3 75 / Evolve2 65 family — see hybrid office headsets.
  • Focus 625 — Bluetooth up to 50 m with BT700 dongle.
  • Zone Wireless 2 ES — native Bluetooth, no dongle in box.

Bluetooth range on those Jabra listings is typically up to 30 m; Focus and Zone state up to 50 m. That is line-of-sight style office range, not DECT floor-walking range.
